Michael Curry, cellist, is originally from New Jersey, and graduated from Harvard and New England Conservatory. His major teachers were David Finckel and Laurence Lesser. He was awarded two fellowships to study at Tanglewood, where he was principal of the orchestra under Ozawa and Rozhdestvensky, and won the Albert Spalding Prize for outstanding string playing. He has performed with groups such as the Boston Ballet, Boston Pops, Cantata Singers, and Boston Classical Orchestra (co-principal.) He is regular solo cellist with Emmanuel Music (including continuo in the Bach Cantatas and Handel operas, and the Brahms and Schubert chamber music series), and also is the frequent solo cellist at the Colonial Theater and Opera House.
Michael has performed chamber and continuo repertoire with Mark Morris Dance Group in Boston and New York. He participated in the staged production of Bach Cantatas (solo/continuo) with the late Lorraine Hunt Lieberson at Lincoln Center, in London, Paris, Amsterdam, and the Vienna and Lucerne Festivals, and is heard in the acclaimed audio recording of that production. In addition, he has made chamber music appearances at Rockport, Weill Hall, the United Nations, and Dumbarton Oaks, Washington, D.C. He has recorded for Albany, Gasparo, Nonesuch, and other labels, in addition to recordings with Dinosaur Annex. |
